About MYP
About MYP
The Male Youth Project (MYP) Scholarship Fund was established to provide college scholarships to at-risk male youth, and to female youth in some instances. Created in memory of Gerard O. (“Mr. B”) Bingham, who served as the Project’s executive director for over 30 years, the MYP Scholarship Fund perpetuates Mr. B’s legacy. It is an enduring testament to his unconditional commitment to the Project’s mission to shape our communities by educating youth and helping them become successful and productive citizens.

Mr.B was one if not the greatest father figure and mentor any young person could have. He share himself with us youth as if we was his own. Never any favorites. He wanted the best out of each and every person he came across. Nothing but perfection is what he wanted but if he saw that you tried then he push you harder to achieve your goals. He showed me how to grow and become a father, husband and overall a great human being. He will always be loved and missed. Long live Mr.B and the Bingham family. Always Love-William Pratt

Man I don’t know what my life would be like if it wasn’t for Mr. B. He took me in as if i was one of his own. He helped me grow into the man I am today. I’m forever grateful for him and his family. Love You B!

MYP taught me the contributions of black people in America's History, to be a strong educated black youth and how to become a strong black man. Being connected with college educated black men also taught me there was more in life for a black man other than being a janitor, mechanic or maintenance man. It was G and MYP which made me know I was going to college which I did and graduated from Hampton University. Even when I left Hampton for a semester, it was G that encouraged me to go back and connected me with a mentor whom I am friends with until this day. The mentor, Marlon Charles and G attended Lincoln University University together and I will forever thank G for connecting me with this individual who played an important role in my life. Lastly, my proudest moment is when G had the opportunity to meet my son at his school when G was a testing monitor. I was leaving the building and G was at the front desk, I ran back into my son's class to take him to meet G. That was the last day I saw G. ---

Wow how do I start this woooo this is very emotional! MYP shaped me to be honest with facing life with all expectations with Family first, and friends. MYP was like a second home I grew up singing mom however we G had you around we knew we had to straighten up fast! We had to hold one another accountable and that’s where the respect took place. I am about to move these things into my everyday. Me and Gee had a very special relationship because when the light bulb went off I found myself doing what he was doing. I would bring kids to his home to arrange for kids to be placed into college. I would use the kid strengths to push him in that direction! He was a huge help for that as I became a man! This was very important because I stood up to become a single father and the fight in coup WASNT easy! However he was there for the fight. I’ve seen Gee fight to get my MYP brothers out of drug cases. I will stop there because the tears are flowing to heavy at this point!
I left out Adryan but none is possible if these things never would have happened! I had two other places Jail or dead! So writing this reminds me of those things
